Law of Ukraine “On Principles of Preventing and Fighting Corruption,” #1506-VI of 11 June 2009
On June 11, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law “On Principles of Preventing and Fighting Corruption,” (#1506-VI) which defines basic principles of preventing and fighting corruption in both public and private spheres, prescribes restitution for damages inflicted by activities deemed to be corrupt, as well as demands the restoration of liberties, rights, and interests of natural persons, legal entities and the state.
The law also specifies measures for preventing and fighting corruption, enumerates liabilities for corrupt acts (criminal, administrative, and civil), as well as for oversight of compliance with anti-corruption legislation, and for necessary international cooperation thereof.
The law, originally initiated by President Yuschenko, was supported by 230 members of Parliament.
